Our Teaching Requirements
At Sunshine Academy, each teacher in every classroom is a fully qualified and certified teacher. All teachers must hold a Bachelors degree or a Masters degree in Early Childhood Education or an equivalent field or be working towards a degree in order to be considered.
High Staff-to-Child Ratio
We do not hire teacher aides or assistants in any classroom at our school. We also make it a practice to over-staff each classroom with three teachers, instead of the more common two teachers per classroom that is required by the state. You are assured that the three teachers in your child's classroom are all fully qualified teachers.
All teacher candidates go through a formal interview process where they are invited to show their teaching portfolios and evidence of curriculum development. Those that pass the interview process are invited back for at least one working interview in one or more classrooms under direct supervision of the school Director. After checking at least three references, a candidate is made an offer to join the faculty.
Certification
All teachers are required to have a full background check from CORI/DCF, including a national fingerprint search, as well as provide evidence of a physical examination and proper vaccinations.
Sunshine Academy requires that all teachers hold a current CPR and First Aid certification and that it is renewed each year.
